The writing is honest and real and each character speaks with a unique voice.
A couple of friends from college, Vince, played by Ky Soto and Jon played by Devin Crittenden, reunite after years apart, their lives moving in very different directions. But one horrific event haunts their friendship and Vince, a manic and slightly psychotic man who’s life revolves around minor drug deals and little else, is compelled to have his old friend Jon, a fledgling filmmaker showing his work at the local film festival, face up to and deal with what cripples them both in very different ways
Vince invites his old girlfriend Amy, played by Katie Ryan, to his hotel room and the chaos begins.
This play is all about perspective, and how wildly different the result of one persons actions can be to those the action touches most deeply.
It is a tense and effective play, really superbly acted by all three actors. Each with their own form and level of intensity. Each with an agenda, a fear and each deeply wounded by the next.
It certainly makes you think about how the things we do to each other never go away, are never healed and how each of those wounds shapes us like a knife whittling wood.
Tape manages to take a subject that most of us over simplify and find a new way to look at it. It effected me, it made me think and it kept me thinking after it was long over.
