This latest release, “Second Wave” personifies his musical ethos. To create purposeful music, beautifully. His signature “live” feel is comfortingly repeated with this wonderful bluesy, soulful track. A lament on the virus, the lies surrounding the pathetic trumpian attempt to manage the response and a powerful sweetly sounding regret on how torn up we all are as a country.
Ames has created and lovely, slightly spooky, mournful funk. “Second Wave” feels like a song that rattled around in his head, keeping him up at night. It’s direct, precise, tightly wound, with a gorgeous bass line holding it all together and the sound makes you feel as if you were right in the room with him…as it happened…
It’s a bit Talking Heads, a bit Leonard Cohen, a bit Don Henley. Warm, resonant, heartfelt and very, very catchy. Ames has a knack for pointing out the obvious, what we are all thinking and feeling and giving it his own very particular vibe. He loves to entertain and yearns to change the world. Music can unite, it can educate and it can protest. But most importantly of all it can move us. So let it. Love this!!
