ABOUT CHAMPS
CHAMPS Charter High School of the Arts - Multimedia and Performing is a public high school located in Van Nuys, California. CHAMPS was founded in 2005, and since then has impacted the lives of more than 2,500 young people. We serve high school students from Van Nuys and the surrounding communities providing them with an excellent free education with an emphasis on the arts. Our 950 students come from diverse backgrounds, yet they are all destined for graduation and success in school -- and in life! We have a faculty of industry leaders and educators that are dedicated to impacting the Los Angeles education crisis -- lowering the high school drop-out rate and creating a college bound culture.
At a time when arts and science education is being dramatically cut from LAUSD classrooms, CHAMPS has increased its commitment to ensure that ALL students in the Van Nuys and San Fernando Valley community benefit from a public school education that has an emphasis on the development of the whole child – physically, emotionally and cognitively. CHAMPS Charter High School of the Arts changes the lives of high school students, hence our waiting list that now stands at two hundred! Students attending CHAMPS participate in our award-winning Academies of Performing Arts (physical education, dance, drama, music), Digital Media, Liberal Arts, Robotics, Radio and Broadcasting -- empowering them to be leaders, entrepreneurs, critical thinkers and passionate advocates for life-long learning.
We believe in creating a college-bound culture for ALL students. Our nationally recognized Director of College Counseling has achieved outstanding results ensuring 97% of the students attending CHAMPS go to college. Graduates have gained admission to many of the top college and universities in the nation, including; Yale, Stanford, CALARTS, NYU Tisch, Syracuse University, USC, Duke, New York University, University of Chicago, Brown, Northwestern and UC-Berkley.
