It’s gorgeously warm and welcoming, soulful and humorous, with a glorious chorus of angelic sirens shamelessly infusing these to these fantastic, deceptively simple songs with a Motown/Atlantic Records twist. Kind of a Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen-esque, Sprinstesny thoughtful yet riotous ride to church.
The tracks are heartfelt and a little heartbreaking in a beautiful, achingly retro way. Senko’s voice brings a wistful, melodic longing to every song. His raw delicious tones know this heartache, this loss, this pain. He sings his soul out, so confessional and brutally honest are his lyrics, as if his story is all he has…it’s brilliant. Theatrical, dramatic, classic, the kind of music you stumble across in some dusty bar somewhere that totally changes your life.
Each track is a movie. Each one a story, a journey, a lesson learned, a tragedy un-averted. There’s a country vibe I guess, but not in an obvious way, much more blues than twangy guitars. And his voice is definitely not country, so the results of this blend is epic, transformational and inspirational.
I am not kidding when I say that I will be playing this EP at every opportunity, in my car, in the house, all summer long…it’s just that bloody good.
They keys slam, the rhythms rock, the harmonies rise and Senko sings in his gritty, effortlessly mournful, careless and careful way.
Every breath meaningful, every tremor real….love, love, love, this….buy it!!!!!
