The Group Rep presents A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM
The Group Rep presents A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM Written by William Shakespeare Directed by Marc Singer

A play about love and marriage, with a dose of dream and reality thrown in, is perfect for this holiday season at the Group Rep with A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, William Shakespeare’s famous and memorable play.

Duke Theseus (Doug Haverty) is planning his wedding to Hippolyta (Silke Sorenson), and at the same time trying to force his daughter Hermia (Hartley Powers) to marry Demetrius (Doren Sorell).  But Hermia is in love with Lysander (Mikel Parraga-Wills) and planning to run away with him.  Helena (Anna Gion), who is Hermia’s friend, loves Demetrius.  So you can see how all this could cause havoc in the Fairy Forest.

Puck (Bennett Saltzman) is mistakenly instructed by Oberon – King of the Fairies (Marc Singer) to sprinkle “love dust” on Demetrius and Lysander causing all kinds of chaos among lovers, plus sprinkles “love dust” on Titiana – Queen of the Fairies (Suzy London) so Oberon can capture a little fairy boy.  Whew!!!  In the meantime, and somewhere else in the Forest, Peter Quince, a carpenter (Lloyd Pedersen) is directing a group of actors to perform a play for the wedding of the Duke and Hippolyta.  They are a rag-tag bunch, with Bottom (J. Christopher Sloan) wanting the starring  role.  As you can imagine, the play, and the group become frenzied as well.

With 25 actors in this play, it takes the adept direction of Marc Singer, assistant director Justin Waggle, and 2nd Assistant Director Robert Axelrod.  The Group Rep has great sets by Marc Singer, Chris Winfield and Dean Cameron, and great costumes by Angela M. Eads.  Lights, sound and stage production are delightful.

Okay, I know this sounds confusing, but it all becomes clear as love wins the day.  Thank goodness!  The holidays just wouldn’t be complete without a bit of misunderstanding.  Love, “love dust”, marriage and Fairies.   A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM fulfills our Christmas wishes.  Light, bright and fun for your holiday cheer.

Happy Holidays everyone and Enjoy!!!!!!!
