DIAL “M” FOR MURDER

Written by Frederick Knott

Directed by Bruce Kimmel

Being an Anglophile, DIAL “M” FOR MURDER is right up my alley.  This is a story set in the Maida Vale neighborhood of London of Tony Wendice, a famous tennis star, who marries Margot, a very wealthy woman.  What happens next?  Well, he plans her murder.  Why?  To get her fortune, of course.  Now she isn’t a saint either.  She is having an affair with an American, and has plans of her own.

Tony is planning a murder.  He has designed every detail:  blackmailing an old school friend from Cambridge and orchestrating the perfect alibi.  It’s amazing how someone can be so devious.  But plans don’t always work out the way we plan them, do they?

Great performances from Carrie Schroeder as Margot Wendice, Adam Jonas Segaller as her scheming husband, Tony Wendice, Justin Waggle as the American Max Halliday. Michael Robb as Captain Lesgate who, unfortunately is the person Tony is blackmailing, and Inspector Hubbard played by Doug Haverty who is in charge of finding out exactly what happened, and who dunnit. He reminds me of quite a bit of Columbo.  You just know the Inspector knows more than he is letting on.  Hisato Masuyama-Ball is Officer Thompson, who assists the Inspector with his investigation, and has one of the biggest laughs of the evening.

Frederick Knott has written a fabulous script filled with British humor, and loaded with twists and turns, and Bruce Kimmel’s direction gives us everything we could ask for in this mystery thriller.
