Written and directed by Thomas Prosser
Yet another interesting and entertaining play from the Eclectic Company Theatre.
‘When Wrong is Right’ is set in 1932 in a small town called Green Haven. Dr James King is a self appointed surgeon with a long and colorful history of grifting his way around the country. Having convinced himself of his surgical prowess he talks a notorious and aging gangster with a nubile young wife into ‘improving’ himself with the help of goat gonads to replace his own…classy!
At the same time as the surgery is to take place, the Dr’s clinic , which doubles as the local radio station is hosting a walkathon, the Dr is also the station’s DJ. The gangster’s wife Ginger is a contestant along with a wild mix of characters all vying for the prize money to set them on their various roads to glory.
With everything from female pilots to English Dukes, washed up baseball players and a conman looking for love, the play has plenty of lovely side stories to distract us from the Gangster’s ‘performance’ concerns.
‘When Wrong is Right’ is really all about having faith in your own dreams and not getting sidetracked by other peoples. Even the Dr’s long suffering wife has her journey to self realization and redemption, there’s really no one who’s story isn’t concluded one way or another.
The play is a character driven galavant told with humor, eccentricity and a flare for the dramatic. Mr Prosser has yet again produced a unique and intriguing ensemble piece with heart and the value of great entertainment in mind. It is a showcase for the talent of the theatre company and the inventiveness of it’s director.
‘When Wrong is Right’ is a hoot, to say the least…
I love watching performances from actors like these so clearly committed to their craft and so connected to their roles. It’s always a treat to see what The Eclectic Theatre has created and this play is certainly another hit for them.
I highly recommend When Wrong is Right at The Eclectic Company Theatre
