Transitional design takes elements from both traditional and contemporary design and fuses the two together using furniture, fabrics, colors and various materials.

The furniture styles lend themselves to a more streamlined feel with arms being more straight-lined and less rounded. Fabrics can be a bit more graphic and as well as a warm chenille on overstuffed chairs, sofas or even sleek wood frames.  Using great ultra suedes or pliable leathers also add to the transitional look.  The color palette tends to be a bit more subdued with browns, taupes, tans and even rich creams.  Many of the side tables, coffee tables, etc. can be from wood, glass and even metal. Using just the right balance and mix of this style should work for both sexes as this design style allows for both masculine and feminine features to take center stage.

Just remember to have fun and enjoy the process.  You never have to start completely over with this style.  It is so versatile that you can add a few things here and there to change your look.
